About Us

Established in 1947, the International Bar Association (IBA) is the world’s leading organisation of international legal practitioners, bar associations and law societies. The IBA influences the development of international law and shapes the future of the legal profession. It has a membership of over 55,000 individual lawyers and 206 bar associations and law societies spanning all continents.The International Bar Association’s Human Rights Institute (IBAHRI) works across the association to promote and protect human rights and the independence of the legal profession worldwide.

What is the Rule of Law Directory?

The IBAHRI Rule of Law Directory is the first centralised, fully searchable, online database of entities engaged in rule of law work throughout the world. It was created in 2009, in partnership with the United States Institute of Peace. Its purpose is to provide users with reliable information on organisations offering assistance to the rule of law and provides an invaluable tool to those establishing and implementing rule of law programmes.

What can I search?

The database groups organisations into 10 searchable entries and can be searched by geographical location, regional or country focus and organisation name

Can I register?

Organisations working in to promote, advance and support the rule of law are eligible to register. Please check that your organisation meets one or more of the 10 listed categories.
